A newly built women's beauty salon in Riyadh needed flooring that matched its high-end interior — exposed black ceiling with industrial track lighting, backlit wall shelving, and glass partition rooms. The owner specifically wanted a glossy, reflective floor with natural movement in the surface pattern rather than the flat uniform look of porcelain tiles. Standard polished tiles were rejected because grout lines would break the seamless feel the designer intended for the space. The floor also had to handle salon chemicals, hair dye spills, and constant foot traffic from clients and staff throughout the day without staining or losing its shine.
We began by levelling the raw concrete slab and grinding it to achieve the surface profile required for microcement adhesion. A vapor barrier primer was applied first to prevent moisture migration from the substrate. We then built up the floor in four hand-troweled layers — two structural base coats in a warm beige tone followed by two finishing coats that created the natural clouded pattern visible in the final surface. Each layer was sanded between applications to ensure a flat base for the next. The glossy effect was achieved through three coats of high-build polyurethane sealer applied with a foam roller — each coat cured overnight before the next. The entire 137 square metre floor was completed in 6 working days with an additional 2 days reserved for final sealer curing before the salon equipment was moved in.
The salon now has a seamless glossy floor that reflects the overhead track lighting and creates depth across the entire open plan space. The warm beige tones with natural cloud patterns give each section of the floor a unique character while maintaining visual continuity from entrance to the washing stations at the back. After two months of daily operation — including hair dye sessions, chemical treatments, and continuous foot traffic — the surface shows no staining, scratching, or loss of gloss. The owner noted that clients frequently comment on the floor as the first thing they notice when entering.

“Literally everyone who walks in asks about the floor before they even sit down. I was scared it would get ruined fast with hair dye spills but honestly we just wipe it quick and not a single mark so far. The only annoying part was we couldnt use the space for like 2 extra days while the coating dried but it was worth the wait.”
